What is the attire for the Michigan Week Community Awards Breakfast?

Professional business attire is appropriate.

What are the Award Guidelines that I must follow to successfully complete my nomination form?

They appear in the first paragraph on this page.  Additional information is included in the description of each award.  After selecting the best option for Nominated by* within the online form, space is provided to answer required questions.

How do I determine the appropriate award category?

Review the brief description for each award category to determine the best fit.  For assistance, send a message to the Awards Committee using the Contact Us tab on the website.

Can I nominate an individual or organization that has received an award in the past?

Yes, if an individual or organization has received an award in one category, subsequent nominations must be in a different Award category.

Can I nominate myself?  Can a family member nominate me?  Can a friend or neighbor nominate me?

Self-nominations are not eligible for recognition.  The best nomination option is for a colleague associated with the same organization as the volunteer to submit the nomination.

Can I nominate someone who volunteers/serves Greater West Bloomfield if I do not live in Greater West Bloomfield?

Yes.  Any individual who lives, works, provides nonpartisan nonpolitical voluntary service or attends school within Greater West Bloomfield is eligible for recognition.  Individuals, who through their profession serve Greater West Bloomfield in a nonpartisan nonpolitical setting, may be eligible to receive the Gretchko Youth Advocate Award – Individual; all criteria specific to the Gretchko Award must be met.

Can I nominate someone who volunteers to benefit the Greater West Bloomfield community and/or schools who does not live or work in the Greater West Bloomfield Community?

Yes.  Any individual who lives, works, provides nonpartisan nonpolitical voluntary service or attends school within Greater West Bloomfield is eligible for recognition.  Individuals, who through their profession serve Greater West Bloomfield in a nonpartisan nonpolitical setting, may be eligible to receive the Gretchko Youth Advocate Award – Individual; all criteria specific to the Gretchko Award must be met.

How many times can a person win an award in the same category?

It is not possible for an individual to win a competitive award in the same category more than one time.  It could be possible for an individual to be enrolled as a Hidden Treasure more than one time, if selected by different entities.

Can I nominate someone who is no longer living in Greater West Bloomfield for their volunteer work in Greater West Bloomfield?

Yes, if they have moved since the last Breakfast.

Can I nominate someone who is deceased for their volunteer work posthumously?

Yes, if they have passed away since the last Breakfast.

What is the process for choosing the award recipients?

All honorees are selected by the Michigan Week Awards Committee after thorough review and deliberation, consistent with the published announced guidelines, directions and criteria.  All deliberations are confidential and all decisions of the Awards Committee are final.

When will I be notified that my nominee has been selected to receive an award?

All nominators will be notified in a letter in April.  It is the responsibility of nominators to notify honorees or Hidden Treasures, as well as make arrangements for their reservation.

Adult honorees in each of the competitive categories will receive one Awards Breakfast registration at no charge; Youth Leadership honorees will receive two Awards Breakfast registrations at no charge.

Can I hand out the awards plaque or certificate to the individual or organization that I nominated?

No

If scholarship awards are presented, can the individual or organization providing the scholarship hand it out or say a few words?

No.  The President/Chairperson or their designee of each community based organization that presents scholarships at the Michigan Week Community Awards Breakfast is invited to stand at the front of the Receiving Line to be the first to congratulate scholarship winners.

To expedite the Awards program, organizations presenting scholarships must provide the Awards Committee with all appropriate information six weeks before the Breakfast so scholarship recipients and their organization can be introduced.

Will the recipient of an award be able to say a few words?

The only two Award recipients given an opportunity to speak very briefly are the winners of the Dr. Seymour Gretchko Youth Advocate Award – Individual and the representative of the entity receiving the Dr. Seymour Gretchko Youth Advocate Award – Group.

Can I purchase a reservation the day of the Breakfast?

No.  Registration must be purchased three Fridays before the Breakfast.
